Totally Lunar, dude. Wednesday, February 20, 2008 |

So, went out with some Flickrites tonight to snap pictures of the full lunar eclipse.

The eclipse itself was cool, but again, the Olympus E-300 failed me. Most of the problem was admittedly the lens on it, it's a kit lens that is wide angle(ish).

Anyway, here's the one shot I took away from it that didn't look half bad:

Enjoy.

You can pull now. Awww yeah. That's it. Tuesday, February 19, 2008 |

Yeah...right there.

Oh, hey, didn't see you there. *ahem*

So, fixed up the code a bit, and now you can pull and see more things, and actually access the archives. Still tweaking some comment stuff and trying to get the damn blog to display who is who when we post.

Barett and I were talking earlier, and we've decided to tackle the quest of creating a documentary. What it's going to be about is to remain a mystery for a while, the writing has literally just started, so hold on to your seats in anticipation! (by the way, filming of it won't even start until late 2009 at the earliest)

Barett's "birthday" party was a success. I'm not sure if he had as much fun as Andrew and I had though, as he left early to go home (curse your parents!) and we kept on drinking and playing CoD4. I'm much better drunk, by the way.

Oh, and photofans, don't forget that tomorrow there is a full lunar eclipse at 8pm MST, be there, and snap photos!

Well, I can't gather any more random thoughts to put to text, so it's time for me to work on this hellish English assignment.

I picked up my new Washburn 5-String Force ABT Electric Bass today. My Mom didn't think it was a very good buy at all. However, factoring in all the stress I'll relieve from just strumming this sexy little number, It's worth a whole lot more than money right now. Which brings me to my next point; Art school:
I have been trying to get a together a portfolio for ACAD in Calgary, a pretty prestigious art college in Canada. I keep thinking that these people are unforgiving or that there is no chance in hell of getting in. Whenever I try to think of something to do for my portfolio and my mind draws a complete blank, I start to get panicky, which is a terrible feeling. It raises the pressure of finding out who I really am, something I feel trapped into doing by the time I'm 20.

Oh wait, it's Feb. 17 right now, Merry fucking birthday.

I'm not a kid anymore. I wish I could just zone out in a comfortable high-school desk right now.

Don't pull...Seriously. Friday, February 15, 2008 |

It's disappointing if you try, so unless you're an unreasonably cheery person, I advise against it.

I've been playing around with the blog layout a bit, trying to kick all of the "Bloggerness" out of it so it looks more like a website. It's at a good stage right now, but you know, no pulling.

In other news, I really dislike this Olympus E-300 I've been using for the past month, it just has some "issues" that make me foam at the mouth. I suppose I spend most of my time comparing it to other things like Nikon's D80 or D200, and then I realise why I'm so disappointed. It's 3 barely functioning autofocus points make me grumble a lot, and the kit lens that comes with it is a bit iffy, it's like they replaced the glass in it with Fischer Price plexiglass or something, because it's absolutely terrible to focus though. Once in a while you'll get a random shot that will turn out nice, but that's usually because you've purposely made the image blurry. I think the camera is just taunting me, it wants me to kill it.

Damn emo cameras.

Anyway, this week is so-called "reading week", unfortunately I do have a lot of reading to do, but I will probably do it at the last minute and think, "Gee, why didn't I do this earlier?". The answer would be because I was playing games, or writing blog posts...Yeah, let's not tell anyone about that.

I've been slacking off on my gaming duties this past week and a half, probably because of the aforementioned "school work", I should probably catch up on that at some point, I need to finish a number of games sitting on my shelf, namely the 360 version of CoD4 on Veteran. There are some insanely irritating levels on that, and I eventually start biting at the analogue sticks and foaming at the mouth in rage. I did one level about 45 times, the one with the ferris wheel. Seriously, I'm going to murder the console one of these days if it doesn't let me finish.

Well, enough of this rambling, it's time to procrastinate some more, and bug Barett about more important things like alcohol and That's What She Said Day.

Oh yeah, and heathens. Comment. Tell us things, we may or may not listen.

Ninja edit: This site is lacking photos, so I'll post some from the excursion Barett and I went on last night, the rest of them are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/hgxiphias for your viewing pleasure.

Mai Samurai Sword Sunday, February 3, 2008 |

I have a really sweet idea for a new control scheme to play First Person Shooters. I'll try to keep this short but I have to setup a premise for it so bear with me:
I've noticed, after playing quite a bit of Call of Duty 4 on both PS3 and PC that you have two very different control schemes, and therefore have two separate, although equal, play-styles at your disposal. Basically, the main draw for PC is the aiming control, "The Almighty Mouse." The main draw for the console control scheme is as I like to put it, "more left stick skills than right stick skills". So basically, on a console, you have precise and smooth control of your foot movement because of the analogue stick itself. It seems as though you have the potential of using that smooth and seamless control to a greater tactical advantage than using the transplanted arrow keys that; W,A,S,D are.
So, my idea would be to use an analogue stick with the necessary buttons for strafing in conjunction with a mouse to aim. If someone got used to this control scheme it would be the best way to play an FPS, I would think.
Well, I hope you read an got all that, I really cant' go into more detail without having done any actual game tests with such a device. It's all hypothetical right now but I think it would be an awesome project to work on.
